On Saturday the 08th June 2013 at around 2000hrs in the Gache Gache River at the Mudzimu Harbour, two people are suspected to have been attacked by a crocodile and one of them managed to swim to safety whilst the other one could not swim and his body could not be located.

Meanwhile the body which went missing as a result of a suspected crocodile attack has been found. Latest reports are that the body of Luckson Kugara was recovered on the 11th of June 2013. The body was found floating in the Gache Gache area. Because foul play is suspected, relatives of the deceased have since taken the body of the deceased to the house of Itayi Nyoni who survived in this incident. Meanwhile Police have since collected the body for post-mortem. Investigations are continuing.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Gillnet fishing regulations do not allow fisherman to be in the waters during the night. The practice of getting into the waters at night has resulted in a number of fishermen risking their lives.

In another report, another male person identified as Edward was attacked by a hippopotamus in the Tsuwa area of Gache Gache last night of the 09th of June 2013 and sustained injuries. Meanwhile the person has been reported to have been taken to Kariba Hospital.

The Authority will continue to concertize communities on the dangers associated with engaging in illegal fishing activities.
