On the 21st of November 2013 rangers who were deployed in the Kachara area of Chewore South (Mkanga) heard the sound of some gun shots in the area late in the evening. The following morning they reacted towards the direction of the shots and at around 0900hrs they picked up a spoor of three. They tracked it for a while and later decided to lay an ambush assuming that the same people would use the same route on their way out. At around 0945hrs whilst on ambush near Maura spring area, they noticed three people from a distance coming towards them. On close scrutiny they realized that one of them was carrying a firearm and was definitely not one of their own.
