The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has received a timely donation of two grand stands and a sporting kit from Belmont Electrical in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Public Relations Manager Caroline Washaya-Moyo said the donation came at a time the Authority was looking forward to re-introducing the Director General’s Tournament.
The tournament has not been held for two years now owing to financial challenges. It is staged in the last quarter of the year and attracts participates from the four regions namely Northern, Southern, Central and Western. The Director General’s tournament affords rangers an opportunity to interact with their counterparts as well as compete in various sporting disciplines netball, soccer, darts, volleyball and swimming.
Washaya-Moyo appealed to the corporate world to come on board and assist the Authority host this year’s tournament stressing that a budget of US$50 000.00 is needed to gather the rangers
Speaking at the same occasion Belmont Electrical Managing Director Tony Richards said the donation was part of her company’s social corporate responsibility programme. She added that it is important for rangers to engage in sporting activities as this will help them stay mentally and physically fit as they protect the country’s wildlife resource.
The two grand –stands will be installed at Matopos and Hwange National Parks respectively.
