Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority would like to urge the public not to

-       cross flooded rivers,

-       bath or wash their clothes in rivers,

-       fish while standing close to water bodies or while their bodies are immersed in the water

-       swim in rivers

as this will expose them to crocodile attacks. Due to heavy rains the country is receiving, crocodiles will flow together with water and as such crocodiles will be found in the most unsuspecting rivers and water bodies. Previously most incidences of crocodile attacks have been on people who were fishing or bathing in the waters. In 2014 a total of eighteen people lost their lives as a result of crocodile attacks. People killed or maimed by crocodiles constitute the highest figure compared to those killed by other wild animals.

The Authority therefore warns the public to be cautious around flooded rivers or water bodies and avoid unnecessary injuries or loss of lives.
