Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rangers had a contact with suspected Zambian poachers in Katombora National Park, Mdhaka area. The poachers were 12 in number.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Public Relations Manager Caroline Washaya-Moyo said through regional collaboration with neighbouring range state, officers on the ground executed an intelligence led operation which bore the results below.
She added that he following items were recovered 29 tusks weighing 297,3kilogrammes valued at US$47 468, 00. 2 knives,4 mosquito nets, Idigital scale,9 blankets,7 bed sheets,3 jackets,4 water containers, I giraffe tail and five kilogrammes of mealie –meal.
No casualties were recorded and the poachers fled.
Meanwhile two rhinos, one female and a calf were poached in Save Valley Conservancy. They had all their horns removed
Investigations for both cases are in progress.
