Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority confirms receiving   report that one person was injured by a buffalo on the eastern side of the Victoria Falls railways station.


Immediately after receiving the report a team of four rangers was dispatched to attend to the scene and react. Further investigations revealed that   a 15 year old boy by the name Brandon Nkomazama who resides in Chinotimba Township in Victoria Falls was admitted in hospital due to injuries sustained when a buffalo attacked him.


The circumstances are that Brandon and his three sisters left their home in the morning to fetch firewood in a thicket bush on the eastern side of the railways station. whilst gathering  firewood a buffalo is said to have emerged and attacked Brandon and in the process he got injured. Brandon was then rushed to the Victoria Falls Hospital.



Rangers who were sent to track down the buffalo managed to locate the buffalo around the same area where it had attacked the teenage boy. Upon noticing the presents of the rangers the buffalo tried to charge towards them and is at this point that it was shot.


The Authority discovered that the buffalo was a solitary adult male and had a deep wound on the right front leg shoulder. The buffalo had some blood on its horns probably from the injuries of the attacked boy.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority will continue to hold awareness campaign programmes aimed at educating communities that reside adjacent wildlife areas to avoid areas with tall grass. The rains that fell in the country have resulted in the growth of trees and tall grass. Awareness campaign programmes also involve the Police and other stakeholders.
